Five things we learned on the first Saturday of the 2017 season:

1–Get used to Alabama being No. 1. The Tide is going to stay there a while: Alabama likes to make you play ugly and that is exactly what it did to No. 3 Florida State Saturday night in Atlanta. The Crimson Tide blocked a punt, recovered a fumble on a kickoff return, blocked a field goal attempt right before the half and threw a long touchdown pass to win 24-7. Despite all the losses on the defensive front seven from a year ago,  Nick Saban just plugged in some new guys and the Tide kept rolling. Just looking at the schedule, there is not (IMO) a serious threat until an Oct. 7 trip to Texas A&M. Alabama has both No. 13 LSU and No. 12 Auburn at home in November.

Alabama came within one second of being a wire-to-wire No. 1 last season.
