Hindsight is a wonderful thing in sports picking. My late Sun-Times deskmate, legendary racing writer Dave Feldman, summed it up best in the title of his marvelous, rambling biography, “Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda.’’

Feldman also coined the phrase “Broken Down Horseplayers,’’ who became universally known as the BDH. Fortunately, I never had that BDH affliction. But I once had that feeling while editing a Feldman column, which began with a lengthy anecdote about. . . a ham sandwich.

Remind me to tell you more about Feldman sometime.

For now, I’m going to tell you about my picks. Last week’s 4-2 gives me a 19-11 record against the spread, including a tidy 14-4 the last three weeks. But I am still humble. Because this week’s games, which look so obvious with hindsight, look like tricky deals right now. I just hope to not be saying, “Woulda, Coulda Shoulda,” too often

And so, here goes:

Minnesota plus-3 at Purdue

Miami minus-3 at Florida State

Maryland plus-30 at Ohio State

Bowling Green plus-14 at Miami (Ohio)

Alabama at Texas A&M (53-1/2)

Penn State at Northwestern (52-1/2) The rest of this article is available to subscribers only – to become a subscriber click here.
